Now we’re into post-production and festival submission, so we’ve added some more price points to elucidate just how expensive this little endeavor can be (and so you can see where your dollars go!)

What goes into festival submission?

-$10 pays for average printing costs of a single submission packet (DVDs, cases, labels, paperwork, etc)

-$35 pays for the average submission fee for a single film festival

-$60 pays for average international shipping of a DVD and application to an overseas festival

What goes into the budget of a short film?

-$8 feeds a crew member for a day

-$60 buys one 400ft roll of Kodak 7229 16mm Film (we need 16)

-$90 pays for lodging for one night of 3 crew members

-$98 buys one HDCAM-SR tape for telecine (which transfers the images from film to HD for editing)

-$100 pays our steadicam operator for a day (we need him for 5)

-$100 also covers catering for our entire crew for a day (2 hot meals)

-$150 rents our audio monitoring system for the director and script supervisor

-$250 rents our equipment truck for a day

-$250 also pays for production equipment like walkie-talkies

-$350 flies one crew member round trip Los Angeles - New Orleans

-$350 also pays for 1 hour of telecine (we will require 6 hours)

-$500 ships our film back to California to be processed

-$500 also pays for the cleaning fee of our Panavision camera package

-$500 also pays for our attorney

-$700 pays for processing of our film

-$1500 pays for our lead actor’s flight from Paris to New Orleans

-$3500 pays for worker’s comp, rental, auto, and production insurance for the entire shoot

(all of the prices are based on generously marked down/student/low budget rates provided us by our highly accommodating vendors)
